"We made Fake Out to help kids build executive functioning skills, but it also just turned out to be a really fun game. Our teen play-testers kept asking to play again and again!"

— Dr. Anton & Dr. Rebecca, ThinkPsych founders

How to use

  • At Home
  • In the Classroom
  • In Therapy

Bring it out for family game night or a quick round before homework. Everyone plays together, so kids and adults are practicing the same skill side by side.

Every card is a small moment to stop and think before reacting. Over time, that practice can make it easier for kids to pause when they're frustrated, excited, or tempted to act fast.

Use it as a quick brain break between lessons or as a fun reward at the end of the day. The game is easy to teach and works with small groups.

Students get to move, laugh, and blow off some energy while practicing focus and self-control. It can help a class settle back in, ready to listen and get back to work.

Use Fake Out! to make impulse control practice active and engaging, one on one or in groups. Afterward, talk about real moments when stopping to think first would have helped.

Kids get many chances to practice self-control in a single session and see their progress from round to round. That success gives you a natural bridge to talk about pausing at home and at school.

FAQ

How do you play Fake Out!?

One player flips cards one at a time while everyone watches. Green cards show an action to do right away: tap, knock, slap, or clap. Red cards mean freeze, and some green cards hide a small corner marker that means freeze too. Every mistake earns a strike, three strikes and you're out, and the last player standing wins. A game takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

What ages is Fake Out! for?

Fake Out! is designed for ages 10 and up. Teens and adults enjoy it too, so the whole family can play together.

How many players does it work for?

Fake Out! works for 1 to 6 players. It's a blast with a group, and the instructions also include ways to play with just two players or practice solo. That makes it easy to use for family game night, small groups, or one-on-one sessions.

What skills does Fake Out! build?

Fake Out! helps kids practice impulse control, attention, working memory, and flexible thinking. Every card asks players to stop and think before they react. With regular play, these skills can support focus and better choices at school, in sports, and at home.

Is Fake Out! good for kids with ADHD?

We think so! Many families and therapists use it with kids and teens who have ADHD. It offers repeated, low-stakes practice stopping and thinking before acting, in a fast format that holds their attention.
