Cards with great family friendly activities, probably most fun for 6-10 year olds if our kids attention span is any indication.
This is not only fun ideas for older kids to sift through when they are bored, but it is also useful for me as a mom of little kids. A lot of the ideas are good for various age groups and my 3 and 5 year olds can do them, too (with help). I like how it has such a wide variety of ideas. Most of them are things that I have done or have seen done before; they are not crazy off-the-wall ideas. It is helpful to have a deck of mostly easy and realistic ideas at my fingertips.
This is a great tool for ideas when looking for activities to keep kids stimulated, curious and engaged. 7 fun categories. Would also do great for school or home school application.
I was a little discouraged by the ideas on some of these cards, especially the “care” category…obviously a lot of these ideas are for people from an affluent area that have money to care for others in the way suggested, it would’ve been nice to include things that everyone could do regardless of financial ability. I got this set in hopes of coming up with new ideas to utilize with homeschooling along with using ideas in the kid’s bored jar. A lot of the categories do have some good ideas that can be done by anybody with things everyone has around their house or just in nature, like looking at clouds…but there are quite a bit that require different items like using a roll of tape to make a racetrack or going on screens to find different information like world records to beat. If the point is to have “screen free fun” then why are we including tasks that involve using screens for information?? The cards are decorated cute and are thick so won’t be crunched up too easily, the box they come in for storage is nice as well and sturdy but it would’ve been better if all the cards had their own little slot instead of stacking different categories together. There are many activities that children 4+ could do so I wouldn’t go with the 8+ on the box. Overall though, this could’ve and should’ve been so much better and I think it’s overpriced at the current listed price of $19.99.
I love this pack of cards because it provides an easy way to gamify simple activities in a way that is neither confrontational nor judgmental. This set explores a series of small tasks as an entry point to larger conversations and activities.
You can take each card at face value and complete the task, or you can deviate slightly for a similar effect. Often, after completing a task, a series of naturally occurring questions arise, leading to deeper conversations with your kids.
The cards are very easy to understand and digest, meaning there’s a low barrier for entry. This makes it simple to pick up a card and do something fun without a lot of planning or preparation.
They’re perfect for camping trips or as a daily reward/activity, helping to create meaningful quality time rather than zoning out in front of a screen. They also stimulate the brain in different ways, lighting up the dopamine centers without relying on digital entertainment.
Overall, I’m incredibly pleased with this kit!
