Introduction
When children lose their baby teeth, it can be an exciting milestone! But for many children with sensory issues such as those with autism or other special needs, it can be stressful and scary. This story was written to help children understand why their tooth is loose and what to do. This story will be particularly useful for children with autism, ADHD, or other developmental disorders. I use simple visuals to help explain these ideas to children in the form of a story.
Contents
In this download, there are three major components:
- An 9 page PowerPoint loose tooth social story that explains why we lose baby teeth and why we should not worry. Each page contains simple images to go along with the story. The great thing about this Powerpoint is that it is FULLY EDITABLE. This means that you can change the text, erase/add images, and make other modifications to suit your individual children. Please just do not distribute or sell the modified versions.
- An 9 page PDF file that is READY TO PRINT and use with your students. Each page will be approximately 4″ x 6″. You can then staple, laminate the pages, or even bind them together to make a Social Story Book.
- A 1 page DOC file that is fully editable. You can use this file if you prefer a 1 page format to a book. It’s easy to laminate and keep near your student’s desk!
Overall, this package has everything you need to teach children what to do about a loose tooth! I think the simple language is perfect for children as young as preschool age.

I printed this for a specific child with autism who was really struggling with having a loose tooth. We read it at school and her parents read it with her at home and it really helped support her.
