Introduction
Task analysis is a strategy in ABA where a multi step skill such as putting on a shirt is broken down into simple component steps (e.g., pick up shirt, slide over head, put one arm through, etc.). Doing this helps children to learn how to do these skills independently over time. The main problem with task analysis is that it just takes a long time to prepare these for your students! In this download, we offer our completed task analyses for four of the most important early dressing skills for young children.
Contents
Inside this digital download, you will find five data sheets with step-by-step directions for students to follow in four critical dressing life skills:
- Putting on a Jacket – 2 sets of instructions for younger and older kids
- Putting on Pants
- Putting on a Shirt
- Putting on Socks and Shoes
What I also like about these sheets is that they will allow you to take data on at least two trials of the tasks (can be used on same or different days). This helps to cut down on wasted paper and also to track progress. There is also room to mark down the prompt level which is used.
We include instructions on every sheet so that you know exactly how to collect data and teach the skill! Although it seems difficult at first, we promise that it is really easy. Our goal at ThinkPsych is to make ABA strategies accessible to parents and professionals everywhere!
