PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

– “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

– “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

We also collect certain personally identifiable information. The information we collect varies depending on how you use our digital products. If you subscribe to our electronic newsletter, you are asked to provide your first name and email address. If you register one of our products you may be asked to provide your name, email address, role, which product you own, the date of purchase, and the retailer from which you purchased the item. If you give us your email address, we may use it to send you information about other products and promotions we believe will interest you. You have the opportunity to unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Our newsletter is operated through mailchimp. We will not sell your email address.

If you use this Site to purchase a product, we collect your name, postal address, email address, phone number, and credit card number or PayPal information. This information is transmitted from our site to a third party by means of a secure data transfer process.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional Third-Party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We are not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices of these Third-Party Services. You are responsible for reading and understanding those Third-Party Services’ privacy policies. This Privacy Policy only pertains to information collected on this Site.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Other Personal Information.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

SHARING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example, we use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site–you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/. You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and government requirements, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights, property, or safety, our users, and the public.

BEHAVIORAL ADVERTISING

As described above, we and third parties use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you. You may see certain advertisements on other websites because we or such third parties participate in advertising networks. Ad networks track your online activities over time by collecting information through automated means, such as through the use of Cookies. The information ad networks may collect includes information about your visits to websites that participate in the relevant advertising networks, such as pages or advertisements you view and the actions you take on the websites. This process allows us and third parties to deliver more tailored advertising and helps us track the effectiveness of our marketing efforts. For more information about how targeted advertising works, you can visit the Network Advertising Initiative’s (“NAI”) educational page at http://www.networkadvertising.org/understanding-online-advertising/how-does-it-work.

You can opt out of targeted advertising by visiting the Digital Advertising Alliance’s (“DAA”) opt-out portal at: http://optout.aboutads.info/ and/or the Network Advertising Initiative (“NAI”) at https://optout.networkadvertising.org/. These opt-out Cookies enable you to block participating companies from installing future Cookies on your computer or browser.
